Want to find out how to take cuttings, grow, prune, fertilize and overwinter figs? Tune in now.

“I just like to say to people, [Figs are] such a fun plant to grow, so do give it a try and do just keep in mind that you want to find a way to grow them that best fits into your garden. Be creative and have fun with it.”

Steven Biggs has written the book on Figs for northern gardeners called Grow Figs Where You Think You Can’t. Before writing his fig book, Steve and I created the Canadian best seller No Guff Vegetable Gardening book together.

In this episode, Steve tells us about growing figs and how easy it is to take cuttings and manage these crazy hot-weather plants in any climate. His favourite early crop variety is Desert King because the Breba (or early) crop is possible anywhere.

He suggests fig enthusiasts follow the fig forum at ourfigs.com and check out the website figs4fun.com to learn even more about figs.

Steve’s latest book is Growing Figs in Cold Climates: 150 Questions Answered . Both fig books are available on Steve’s Website.
