Last year, the pricey Hamlets were first to ripen evenly in late July and I started giving them away to friends and neighbors. “Those tomatoes are really hard and tough” said a neighbour. And I agreed. They were both “firm and dark red” as advertised. But firm and hard are not good adjectives for home-grown tomatoes.
First things first this year: Planting radishes successfully this spring time. And plant them again outside. Get them in early for best success!
“It’s too heavy grandma” 4 year old grandson Rupert complained when asked to hold my cauliflower for a photo-op last year. I didn’t have the same problem this year, that’s for sure.
I have been gardening and writing about gardening for thirty years so I was basically bragging about growing the biggest and best cauliflower crop ever. Until I flunked out.
I guess it’s the hobbyist thing. If you are growing outdoors, particularly here, you start in the spring and you are ending – by now. With indoor growing you can grow whatever you want whenever you want 365 days of the year. That’s what modern homesteading is about.
But back to Biochar. Apparently if made and used properly it is a more or less a permanent solution to soil drainage problems, soil fertility, soil chemical problems and almost anything that ails you.
