Summer Veggie Harvest Begins
Yesterday I got back something I gave away. In the spring I gave extra seedlings to a friend and yesterday she gave one back- as a fully grown plant. The Tiara cabbage was a new venture for me. Described as a lettuce-like cabbage with tender leaves in the William Dam catalogue. When I got back the 2 lb. cabbage yesterday I was shocked. The seedlings I planted in my own garden weren’t as big.
I guess I am guilty of rarely fertilizing and because I have a north facing garden things are a bit slow. So I fertilized. And today the leaves are starting to wrap around and my own cabbage will be ready to eat within a couple of weeks. If you haven’t tried this yummy member of the cabbage family go ahead and order some seed. I am planning to seed more as soon as I get it- hopefully it will overwinter on Vancouver Island- never sure until you try it!
In Calgary I also harvested my Renee’s Organic Quick Stirfry Blend. Seeded outdoors on May 12, it germinated in 2 days and was harvested last week. So basically after three weeks the “quick” blend was ready to harvest and eat. Amazing.
