Share the Love: Tips & Tricks to grow anything better

by | Feb 23, 2016 | Food, GARDENING, Greenhouse, Soil | 0 comments

Earlier this year I spoke at both the Calgary Home and Garden show and the Edmonton show. In between all that I spent quality time with my family and we talked about how love can make plants grow better.

My daughter Chelsie tried an experiment – non-scientific of course –  because she doesn’t have a lab.  She did eliminate as many variables as possible in her indoor grow-op as she started different groups of plants under lights.

Who new labeling your plants differently could trigger them to grow differently. My daughter's kids hated it that their mom labeled one plant "I hate you" so they spoke to it more and it grew better at first. Once they forgot about it, the plant with the positive label look over and grew faster. Are you talking to or labeling your plants?

Chelsie used the same soil, same seed and same lights and she labelled two sets of seedlings. One group was labelled “I love you” and the other group was labelled “I hate you”. In both cases there was a second set of plants that also had worm castings and positive and negative labels. The “I Hate You” plants came up faster but then most of them died. The “I Love You” plants grew best overall. The bonus was the “I Love You” plants with worm casting were the best, most robust plants.

So the moral of the story?  Tell your plants how you feel and use worm castings to make it all better….. I am heading outside right now to tell my greenhouse plants how much I love them. I have also got seedlings growing indoors as micro greens for salads.

If you share the love with your family and friends and even your plants, there is a good chance someone will benefit. And if you use worm castings you might just get that extra boost your plants need to thrive this year.
